On Friday 24 April we marked a special milestone with a blessing at Northcote Library, where Northcote’s new community hub will soon take shape.
It was a chance to acknowledge the library’s incredible legacy and its dedicated staff, who have supported the community for more than 40 years, and to celebrate the collective mahi that’s brought this much-anticipated project to life — with construction starting next week.
Opening in late 2027, the new community hub will bring together:
• Northcote Library
• Citizens Advice Bureau
• NorthArt
• Hearts & Minds
• Plunket.
The future-focused building has a world-leading sustainable design, including solar power, rainwater reuse, recycling of building materials and energy-efficient features.
At the same time as creating the new community hub, we are also upgrading the neighbouring Puāwai Cadness Reserve, with a new basketball court, lawn, pavilion, play spaces, gardens, toilets and lush planting.
Ngā mihi nui to Reuben Kirkwood (Ngāi Tai ki Tāmaki) for leading the karakia, and to everyone who joined us to mark this special occasion.
