As part of the wider Unlock Henderson Programme, we’re planning a new playground in Henderson Park.
The theme for the new playground is Pūrākau of Panuku and Parekura - trail of white feathers. This theme was gifted by our mana whenua partners, Te Kawerau ā Maki.
Henderson is growing, so green spaces and community facilities need to evolve too. We want your ideas, so we can provide a playground that's fit for purpose, well-loved and well-used.

We have developed preliminary plans for the new playground and are asking the community what play equipment and features we should consider in the design.
Project information
Henderson Park has good infrastructure to support a playground. There is a car park nearby, toilets and a drinking fountain. It also provides sports fields, disc golf and some fitness equipment.
The park is an established parkland setting with a network of existing shared paths and a good large residential catchment. It has existing recreational uses such as sports, disc golf and fitness equipment.

AK Have Your Say
Tell us what you think we should consider when we design the playground by visiting AK Have Your Say during consultation - which runs from 6 August–3 September 2026.
We want your feedback to know what is important to you and understand what playground features you think we should consider in our design.
We’re also interested to know what you think we could do to make the area more welcoming and used by rangatahi/youth.
