Franklin residents will soon have better access to public transport, with Auckland Transport confirming the new Paerātā and Drury stations will open on 2 August.
Located in key growth areas, the stations are a welcome addition to Auckland Transport’s Southern Line services, making it even easier for local communities to connect to Auckland’s wider rail network.
Passengers will be able to travel by train to key destinations including Pukekohe, Papakura, Auckland Airport via Puhinui, Middlemore Hospital, the city centre and beyond. Two new bus services serving Ramarama and Paerātā Rise will complement existing services, providing convenient connections to and from the new stations.
With southern Auckland’s population expected to grow by around 130,000 people over the next 30 years, Auckland Transport is working alongside KiwiRail, NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi, and Auckland Council to plan and build infrastructure ahead of demand.
“The impact of these much-anticipated additions to the public transport network will be life-changing for residents and businesses, offering more flexibility for where they live and work, and more choice on how they get to where they need to be.
Auckland Council is focused on bringing together planning, infrastructure, and investment to support well-coordinated growth in southern Auckland, particularly in Drury, with an emphasis on creating a place that works for both current and future communities”.

Currently, Southern Line services travel directly between Pukekohe and Waitematā stations. When City Rail Link opens this year, the Southern Line will be replaced by the South City Line, and trains will stop at the new Karanga-a-Hape and Te Waihorotiu stations, making it easier to access more of the city centre and other train and rapid bus services. There will be more trains at peak times and in the middle of the day.
Each station has Park and Ride spaces, pick-up and drop-off areas, and bicycle and motorcycle parking.

The government has funded three new train stations between Papakura and Pukekohe as part of Auckland’s growing rail network: Drury Station, Paerātā Station and the future Ngākōroa Station, west of Drury, expected to open in 2027.
