Calling all young bike-lovers: Kidical Mass returns on Saturday 28 November!
Picture a parade on two wheels. A big, colourful crew of kids and their whānau riding together along the waterfront, with fun, prizes and treats along the way. Kidical Mass isn’t just a regular group ride, it's a celebration of the joy and independence found on two wheels.
Fancy dress is encouraged - capes, colours, onesies, pyjamas, anything goes!
The afternoon will run as follows:
📍Meet at Bike Hub Queens Wharf from 1pm for pre-ride activities and bike decorating.
🚲At 2pm we will gather together and ride as a group towards the Base Spaces next to Silo Park.
🏙We will arrive at the Base Spaces around 2.45pm for healthy snacks, activities and more whānau friendly fun.
🏁The event finishes at 4pm.
Every ride brings us a little closer to a city where all kids can bike safely and freely and have a blast doing it. Best of all, it’s FREE.
A reminder that we do our best to guide and provide safety measures for the ride, however your safety (and that of your tamariki, moko) is ultimately your responsibility.
FAQS
What should I bring?
Your bike, a raincoat or a windbreaker, sunscreen, hat, a water bottle. There will be some healthy snacks available, but we recommend bringing your own food too. Alternatively, you can check out the great local eateries on the Waterfront.
Getting there
We’ll be gathering in the area next to Bike Hub at Queens Wharf. We recommend riding or catching public transport with your bike, but if you need to drive there are paid parking options near Silo Park. Please note, there is no public parking at Queens Wharf.
How long is the ride?
The ride is just over 1km. The route is flat and the bike ride will take us 25 - 30 minutes on the day, including stops. For reference, an adult riding this by themselves would complete the distance in around five minutes.
Can my kids walk, scoot or skate the route?
Absolutely, kids on scooters or skateboards can join the ride. If they are walking, they will need to use the footpath and be accompanied by a guardian as we will not have any guides or marshals to accompany you on the route.
Do kids need to be accompanied by a guardian?
Yes, kids (under 12) need to be accompanied by a guardian.
Are there toilets at the event?
Yes, public toilets are available at the Ferry Terminal and at Silo Park.
Will there be official photos taken of the event?
Yes, we will have an official photographer at the event, and some of these may be shared online or used in promotion. If you do not want you or your child’s photo taken, please let staff know on the day.
