Church Street improvements

We are working together with Auckland Transport on a set of upgrades for Church Street in Onehunga.
The work will improve the pedestrian safety while supporting and future proofing the public transport network link in Onehunga.
Overview
Church Street is important in integrating the soon to be developed Waiapu Precinct, the library and community facilities, and Onehunga Mall. The work being undertaken to upgrade it will improve the safety of the street, the pedestrian experience and help to future proof the public transport network in Onehunga as a whole.
Improving the public transport journey experience is an important part of growing our public transport patronage in Auckland, which helps take pressure off our roads for those that cannot make their journeys by public transport.
Onehunga is one of Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland’s earliest settlements. Its vibrant community and central and connected location make it a great place to live, work and invest. Eke Panuku and Auckland Transport are working on enhancing this iconic neighbourhood as a great place to live, work, play, visit, and do business.
Improvement projects
The changes on Church Street include a project to extend the bus stop and yellow lines to allow for three buses. This also saw the removal of a mid-block crossing and the addition of a new bus shelter.
Following this was a project that relocated the existing zebra crossing from outside the Citizens Advice Bureau to outside the library and community facilities building, just adjacent to the end of Gerrard Beeson Place and the ramp up to St Peters Church.
There are further projects under investigation for Church Street. We will keep the community informed and involved as the develop.
