New education investment for Drury

Drury's growing community is set to benefit from new education infrastructure, with the Government confirming a new specialist school and land acquisition for a future primary school in Drury. 

Drury is undergoing a considerable transformation with more than 25,000 homes and a future population of around 60,000 people planned for this new southern city. This announcement marks another important step in delivering the community infrastructure needed to support the area's growth.

The new Drury Specialist School, expected to open in Term 1, 2028, will be the first specialist school built in New Zealand in 50 years. The purpose-built facility will cater for up to 54 students with high and complex needs and include specialist learning spaces, therapy and whānau facilities, outdoor learning areas, and dedicated pick-up and drop-off zones.

The Government has also confirmed funding to purchase a 3.2-hectare site for a future primary school in Drury. As an important part of creating connected, thriving communities, these investments will help provide quality education opportunities for current and future residents and support Drury's evolution into a prosperous new city.

The Auckland Urban Development Office plays a key role to help facilitate the infrastructure and services needed to support Drury's long-term development alongside government agencies, developers and community partners.

Other major developments underway in Drury include:

• New rail stations and bus services, with Drury and Paerātā stations now open making it easier for commuters to connect to Auckland’s wider rail network. A third station, Ngākōroa, is planned to open in 2027.
• Major transport infrastructure upgrades including State Highway 1 Papakura to Drury improvements, Waihoehoe Road and wider investment in the area's roading.
• New employment opportunities, with a metropolitan centre, business and industrial precincts taking shape across Drury, including investment from major employers such as Fisher & Paykel Healthcare, helping create thousands of jobs closer to where people live.
