A new connection for Old Papatoetoe
Construction of the Cambridge Terrace extension is now complete. This extension can now help streamline travel between Puhinui Road , Stadium Reserve and the Old Papatoetoe town centre.
Our work to extend Cambridge Terrace began in spring 2024 and is now complete. This extension creates a new connection between Puhinui Road, the Allan Brewster Leisure Centre, Stadium Reserve and the town centre, including New World.
Whether you’re driving, riding a bike, on a mobility scooter, or have a stroller with you, the extension is designed to improve your journey and help you get to where you need to go in Papatoetoe's town centre.
New Connection: The new road is an extension of Cambridge Terrace, continuing alongside Stadium Reserve to meet an upgraded Stadium Lane, which connects with Wallace Road.
It will serve future housing developments, as well as the now upgraded reserve. For many users it will become the main connection to the town centre from Puhinui Road. This is because a section of Tavern Lane has recently been closed, due to it being on private land and part of the Piko Toetoe development.
Safety: There are now wider footpaths, safe crossing points, a separated cycle lane and a low speed street design to support better access and increased use of Stadium Reserve.
Wai: This project also has a focus on stormwater resilience, helping mitigate flooding through swales and water detention, as well as cleaning runoff.
As per the masterplan, this project was integrated into the Stadium Reserve upgrade to deliver urban regeneration for Old Papatoetoe.
