Work is continuing at pace in the Waiapu Precinct - Onehunga’s new development area
Since the last update in July, great progress has been made in the upper tier area. Two wastewater lines have been installed along the length of Gerrard Beeson Place, including connection into the walkway linking to Onehunga Mall. Stormwater connections are underway, and the construction of 6 tree pits is due to start late October.
In the middle tier area, our team have been busy felling trees making way for a major wastewater connection from the upper tier (near Gerrard Beeson Place) down to the lower tier (near the former mini putt site). This major connection is now installed and connected, and the deep trenches are being backfilled.
The construction team have been utilising the Church Street single lane closure to make a connection into existing infrastructure in the road. They have identified existing services and will be trenching across the road over the coming weeks for waste and potable water connections.
In the area in front of the shops, the team have laid 50m of new watermain line and electrical ducting and are continuing with stormwater and wastewater connections in this area.
We have kept carparks available for as long as possible in the lower tier. To avoid delaying the project, we need to expand further into the carpark next week. This will happen at the same time as the site on Church Street switches to the other side of the road. The Waiapu Lane site will extend from the shops to Gerrard Beeson Place (near the church).
The team will be turning the taxi parking into public parking for close access to shops. The rest of the lower carpark (near the former mini putt site) will remain open.
