Northcote Town Centre is evolving!
Built in the late 1950s, the heart of the community is getting ready for a new chapter.

Starting from later this year, staged redevelopment will bring fresh life to the area, with upgraded public spaces designed for Northcote’s growing community.
Following these improvements, you’ll start to see staged construction of new shops, offices, apartments, a town square, and a bigger supermarket.

Planned improvements over the next two years include:
-
The final piece of Te Ara Awataha — Northcote’s new greenway — running through the town centre.
-
A modern community hub on the current library site - bringing together the library and other community providers (NorthArt, Plunket, Citizens Advice Bureau, Hearts & Minds) on one site.
-
An upgraded reserve beside the new hub – Puāwai Cadness Reserve. There’ll be a new baseball court, two play spaces, two garden areas, public toilets, more trees and plants and improved stormwater management.
Following these improvements, you’ll start to see staged construction of new shops, offices, apartments, a town square, and a bigger supermarket.

As we look to the future, we’re also celebrating the past and the present.
For the past few years, our Time Capture project has been documenting the town centre’s unique character through regular snapshots.

Now in its fourth year, Time Capture has taken a creative turn. We invited students from Northcote Intermediate School to capture the town centre through their own eyes.
Guided by professional photographer Jinki Cambronero, these talented young people explored what their community means to them — and produced some wonderful work. You can read more here.
📸 Come and see a selection of their photos and reflections on display in Pearn Place (car park end), Northcote, from the beginning of July for a couple of weeks.
Northcote is changing — and Northcote Intermediate students have helped capture its spirit along the way. A big thanks to all the participating students for their creativity and insights. ❤️
