A set of improvements are underway for the Lagoon Edge reserve in Panmure.
The works began in June 2025 and construction will be completed in summer 2025/26.
The vision is to make the Lagoon Edge reserve a place that celebrates the cultural and historical significance of the lagoon and is a destination for locals and visitors alike.
Since starting works in the middle of June the construction team have had to deal with some bouts of significant rain. Thankfully, the recent spans of sunshine have allowed for good progress on the project.
The works currently being completed on site include:
-
Installation of ducting for electrical
-
Stormwater works progressing
-
Foundations for light poles along water’s edge being installed.
Over the next month the following activities will begin:
-
Retaining wall foundations going in
-
Subsoil drainage installed
-
Subgrade preparation.
For those walking around the lagoon, a walking detour is now in place, to allow for safe navigation around the work site. Please do not cut through the work site at low tide.
The public toilets have now been deconstructed and will not return until the works are completed. There are toilets further around the lagoon path and in the town centre by the library.
The skatepark is still accessible but will see closures in the coming months to allow for the works to be completed more efficiently and safely. To keep local skaters rolling, we’ve teamed up with East Skate Club to offer a limited number of free 1-hour passes each month to SonSK8 indoor skatepark on Omaru Lane, Glen Innes. Passes are first in, first served — one per skater. Learn more or get in touch with SonSK8 at www.sonsk8.co.nz.
