Ngā kōrero mō mātou Who we are
We are the Auckland Urban Development Office and the Property department — two new dedicated teams within Auckland Council.
Together, we:
- Drive integrated, sustainable, place-based regeneration
- Manage council-owned property and marinas
- Partner with others to shape Auckland’s future growth and resilience.

The Auckland Urban Development Office
We lead regeneration programmes on behalf of Auckland Council, invest in infrastructure and community amenities, facilitate residential and commercial development and partner with others to plan and deliver large-scale development in key locations.
As the council’s “front door” for urban development, we partner with government agencies, iwi, private sector developers, not-for-profit organisations and other partners to coordinate, plan, and help deliver smarter, better urban outcomes in Auckland.

The Property department
Auckland Council is the second largest property owner in New Zealand behind the Crown, with its portfolio including service and non-service properties. Service properties play a direct role in providing a council service, for example through Watercare, Auckland Transport or council’s libraries and community centres. The non-service portfolio is diverse, located across the region and includes commercial, retail and residential properties, but also landfills, quarries, heritage buildings and marinas.
The Property department has responsibility for managing council’s substantial non-service property portfolio, bringing together the property and marina functions previously managed by Eke Panuku with the council’s in-house property and commercial teams. It is the role of this department to provide the strategic leadership, systems and support the council group needs to ensure the non-service portfolio delivers value for council and Aucklanders, today and into the future.
